Limitations of Braces
Orthodontics with braces has been used for decades to straighten teeth in early teens when all the permanent teeth have appeared, and although effective in forcing the teeth into straighter alignment, it’s important to recognise that there are well-documented disadvantages. Along with leaving the underlying causes of crooked teeth untreated, traditional orthodontic techniques have several other risks or limitations including surgery, enamel and root damage as well as the high likelihood of relapse, unless a permanent commitment is made to wearing a fixed or removable retainer.
The main risks and limitations of treatment with braces are:
- Up to 90% relapse
- Enamel damage
- Root damage
- Retention for life
Straight teeth the natural way
The Myobrace®System is preventive pre-orthodontic treatment that focuses on addressing the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces or extraction of teeth, unlocking natural growth and development. Treatment is best suited to children aged 3 to 15 and involves using a series of removable intra-oral appliances that are worn for 1-2 hours each day plus overnight while sleeping.
Myobrace treatment does:
- Correct poor oral habits
- Develops & aligns the jaws
- Strengthens the teeth
- Optimises facial development
- Improves overall health
- Promotes healthy eating habits
The Myobrace helps the child:
- Breath through the nose
- Correct tongue resting position
- Swallow correctly (no lip movement)
- Keep the lips together (mouth closed)
