Pulp Therapy

Pulpectomy Treatment in Weybridge

MyoKids Dental in Weybridge provides pulpectomy procedures, including pulp therapy and baby root canals, to relieve pain and, when possible, save baby teeth.

Modern equipment & sedation in a colourful, calm clinic

Saving baby teeth with a baby root canal is not as bad as it sounds – it’s vastly different from an adult root canal and can be performed very quickly, as it doesn’t go into the roots of the baby tooth, but rather only the upper portion of the nerve that’s been affected by the bacteria.

Why choose MyoKids for pulp therapy?

MyoKids is an award-winning private children’s dental team in Weybridge, Surrey, that takes a tooth-saving approach wherever possible.

Our goal is always to relieve pain, protect your child’s comfort and support their wide tooth development in a colourful environment designed to make treatment feel less frightening.

Children’s pulp therapy

How MyoKids Dental can help save your child’s baby tooth:

Pulpotomy From £270

Recommended when decay or infection has reached the top part of the nerve inside a baby tooth, but the root canals remain healthy. We remove the affected tissue, clean and seal the tooth, protecting it further with a filling or crown. A pulpotomy can relieve pain and keep the baby tooth in place before it’s ready to fall out naturally.

Baby root canal

Pulp therapy is recommended when a baby tooth has a deeper infection but has a good chance of being saved. Treatment involves removing the infected tissue, reducing pain or swelling, and protecting the tooth so it can keep helping your child chew, speak, and hold space for the adult tooth underneath.

Pulpectomy From £300

Recommended when the infection has spread deeper into the root canals of a baby tooth. Our paediatric dentists carefully remove the infected tissue from inside the tooth roots, clean the canals and then seal the tooth. Typically, we recommend a children’s crown to keep the tooth protected and prevent it from breaking down again.

Reasons why your child might need pulp therapy

  • Deep tooth decay: A large cavity, dark area, visible hole in the baby tooth.
  • Toothache: Ongoing pain or discomfort when chewing.
  • Abscess: Gum swelling, pus, a small gum boil, bad taste or facial swelling.
  • Sensitivity: Pain with hot, cold, sweet foods or brushing.
  • Broken baby tooth: A cracked, chipped or weakened tooth.
  • Tooth trauma: A baby tooth damaged by a fall, sports injury or accident.
  • Failed filling: Previous filling worn and infection has reached the nerve.

It’s important to save a baby tooth because, even though they’re just temporary, they hold space. When one is lost too early, nearby teeth can drift into the gap, affecting how adult teeth erupt later.

When a tooth cannot be saved, MyoKids Dental can help with gentle extractions and space maintainers.

My young son had struggled with other dentists and we had experienced numerous failed attempts to have required treatment completed elsewhere due to his anxieties. Our experience with MyoDental has been incredible. The care taken from all the staff to understand our circumstances, welcome him, make him feel at ease, build trust, etc. has been beyond our hopes and expectations. Michael's ability to communicate clearly during his appointments, address and empathise with my son's concerns, and encourage him to allow the treatment to be completed has been fantastic. Would very highly recommend, especially for any parents who have young children who are anxious of visiting dentists.

We highly recommend Myodental, especially Dr Marshall’s expertise in holistic orthodontics. Our daughter, 11 at the time, had top and bottom overcrowding as well as an impacted canine. We were advised previously to remove 4 healthy teeth before braces, which we were quite reluctant to proceed with. Luckily, we found Dr Marshall who meticulously put together the best treatment plan for our daughter, including a Schwartz palatal expander (and without any unnecessary teeth extractions). 24 months later - a wide, beautiful, perfect smile. We are extremely happy with the results! Many thanks to the whole team!

I was more than happy to travel all the way from Dorset for every appointment for my daughter. When you start doing research into the dental industry, it soon becomes apparent that not all professionals are created equal! I wanted to bring my daughter here because Michael is one of the few who truly takes in the bigger, holistic picture and not just 'straightening' teeth. He understands the importance of airway, bone formation, and over-all health. It was no surprise to me that MyoDental even have people travelling from abroad for Michael's services. Absolute professionalism and 5-star service from the team the whole way. My daughter loved going to her appointments!

Delighted - four months on I have straight and tastefully whiter teeth. The process was surprisingly straightforward once you had got used to having the retainers in your mouth. You can see progress almost immediately. And the end result was impressive given that teeth start to meander when you get older. Michael is a delight to work with and his team patient. Their pricing is also transparent so there were no hidden charges which it always appreciated. Many thanks. P.s. my bite in back in the right place for the first time since I was a teenager.

I had a hygiene appt today with Nicola and she was fantastic. I haven't had teeth so clean, with stains gently removed from coffee etc., in a long time. She was helpful and knowledgeable and took the time and care required to get my teeth in great shape, without causing me discomfort. I rarely think to leave reviews but I was so impressed with Nicola that I was motivated to take the time to do so.

I had very bad overcrowding of my teeth, and I visited several clinics across London where everyone wanted to remove two teeth from the bottom to straighten them, which didn’t feel right to me. When I found Dr. Marshal, he was the only one who suggested expanding the jaw using ALF, with no need to remove any teeth. The whole treatment was excellent. Dr. Marshal was always kind and explained everything in detail. I felt very comfortable throughout all my appointments. The result is amazing - straight teeth and a beautiful smile. Thank you, I am very grateful for my smile! As a bonus, I also have a better jawline.

I popped into MyoDental just to make a general enquiry and not only did I come out with some useful advice, but a hygienist appointment made for me two hours later. Very happy with the appointment and was very appreciative to the staff who didn't mind my fussy baby being in tow! It was a very welcoming practice and I plan to return.

Dr Marshall was amazing fixing my son’s chipped tooth after 3 years and many refusals from others claiming he is too young to have it done. His first reaction was “what, so I can smile again?!” 🥹 Thank you, Dr Marshall for making this happen, your expertise and approachable made this experience a bliss.

FAQs

A baby root canal is a common term for pulp therapy. Depending on the infection’s severity, your child may need a pulpotomy or a pulpectomy.

A pulpotomy removes infected tissue from the top part of the nerve inside the tooth. A pulpectomy removes infected tissue from deeper inside the root canals of a baby tooth.

Your child may need pulp therapy if they have deep tooth decay, a toothache, swelling, a dental abscess, trauma, or an infection that has reached the nerve of a baby tooth.

Most children benefit from check-ups every 6 months, although some may need more frequent visits if they are at higher risk of decay, have dental anxiety, require orthodontic treatment, or have a history of dental problems.

Baby root canals are often comparable to a filling and typically don’t hurt, helping to save infected baby teeth from extraction and relieve pain. Without treatment, it can lead to toothache, swelling, abscesses and early tooth loss.

We numb the tooth with local anaesthetic before treatment. Sedation is also available if your child is very anxious or needs more complex care.

Often, yes. A crown may be recommended after pulp therapy to protect the baby tooth, especially if it is a back tooth or has been weakened by decay.

Signs can include toothache, swelling, pus, bad taste, fever, pain when biting, disturbed sleep or a small gum boil near the tooth.

Yes. MyoKids Dental has a dedicated children’s floor, gentle communication, a tell-show-do approach and safe sedation options available when needed.
